What Is Anchor Text?
Anchor text is the clickable text in a hyperlink. Google uses it to understand what the linked page is about.
Types of Anchor Text
Exact match uses your target keyword. Partial match includes it in a longer phrase. Branded uses your company name. Generic uses “click here.” Naked URL is simply the URL itself.
What a Natural Profile Looks Like
Roughly 30-40% branded, 20-30% generic and naked URL, 15-20% partial match, and only 5-10% exact match. Heavy exact-match ratios trigger penalties.
Common Mistakes
Over-optimizing for target keywords and not varying anchors enough. Both patterns look unnatural to Google.
